Our Why

The reason Walker & Meier Consulting exists.

Scott Walker and Joe Meier are retired fire-service professionals with nearly 60 years of combined experience. Their passion now is focused on developing the leaders of tomorrow and improving the overall wellness of first responders.

The fire service has carried a decades-old burden: increased cancer risk, cardiac disease, behavioral health strain, and preventable loss among those who spend their careers protecting others.

Walker & Meier Consulting was created to help change that trajectory.

The firm believes responder wellness must be viewed holistically — not as a single product, program, or annual checkbox, but as a complete system of prevention, education, early detection, leadership development, mental health awareness, annual physicals, peer support, and operational readiness.

This work is about helping agencies move from reaction to prevention.

It is about protecting the people behind the badge, developing the leaders who will carry the profession forward, and helping organizations build systems that support responders before the damage is already done.

Prevention Is Leadership

The future of the fire service depends on more than response capability. It depends on protecting the people who respond.

Responder wellness, cardiac screening, cancer prevention, mental health readiness, leadership development, and operational support are not optional. They are leadership responsibilities.

Walker & Meier Consulting helps agencies take that responsibility seriously.
